Great atmosphere, great live music, great drinks, great staffs, great place to hang out! Decoration of the lounge is special, very tropical. The Pina Colada that I have ordered was so good, they made it all fresh! My friend ordered some raspberry golden pineapple martinis and he really loved it. We picked this place based on the recommendations on Yelp, it turned out way better than what we have expected. We had great time and thanks Kona kai for it :)

The staff is great! Very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is amazing. The decorations are what prompted me to visit. But, the drink prices are a little ridiculous... Like Chicago priced drinks. Very little food offerings. Chicken strips appetizer were four skinny little things - don't recommend them. This place has a lot of potential, they just need to make some changes. They need to have deals during the weekdays. More food items must be added. The drink prices need to be reduced by at least 1/3, but probably 1/2. Again, fantastic service.

Aloha! Kona Kai is my favorite local lounge. The decor is awesome. The staff is attentive and genuinely friendly. I like the variety of tropical drinks they offer. The Hawaiian Pizza is very delicious. I have been to the Kona Kai several times and have never been disappointed. I would highly recommend this lounge to anyone looking for a relaxing, yet fun night out.

Well, I'd never been to Wood Dale before, but the lure of tropical drinks and hula music drew us there to Kona Kai after a day of shopping in Arlington Heights. I love tiki bars. And this is a decent one. There's a beautiful thatched-roof bar where you can sit, or alternately tables and chairs under their own canopy. Background music was a curious mix of Hawaiian music with British Romantic New Wave and the Beach Boys. The menu isn't huge but is respectable, with a roster of classic drinks, Kona Kai specialties, and fruity "martinis." I have suddenly become impervious to booze, because I had two drinks and only felt loose by the end. (This obviously was not the case for everyone in the bar, as a guy at the table behind us was getting steadily smashed, and frankly making a jackass of himself.) I too had the Coral Reef (source of said drunk's intoxication). If you are a lightweight this is probably not for you. It's a literal fishbowl full of rum, pineapple vodka and blue curacao (the origin of its electric blue hue). The flavor was very pineapple-forward. While a fun novelty drink, I'd go for something different next time. My friend got (and was rather disappointed by) her pina colada. I got one for a second drink, but strawberry flavored: it tasted like a strawberry-coconut smoothie (same smooth, not icy, texture) with a slight kick behind it. Another disappointment: where are all the frou-frou garnishes?! My Coral Reef came with a lone orange wedge, not even fulfilling the menu's promise of mixed berries and fruits (which I see from other yelpers' pics are not always absent). My friend's pina colada came with a lone cocktail umbrella, and mine had no garnish at all! What a drag. You will need some food to soak up the booze (I'm looking at you, next-table-guy). They have a small menu of appetizers (pardon me, pupus), but nothing more exotic than what's on the menu at TGI Fridays (chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers). They tasted good, but kind of weird that they weren't at least a little thematic...Would have been nice to see some dessert offerings too. Staff was welcoming and polite, but things were on "island time" even before the place filled up. But who cares? Soak in the atmosphere and relax. Aloha!

My friend loves all things tiki, so what's a better spot to have a bachelorette party than at Kona Kai Tiki Lounge? After spending part of the evening here, I really like it more than that "other" tiki lounge in the suburbs. We were here on a Saturday night, and the bar was mostly empty. I'm not sure if the general population was flocking to sports bars because of the Blackhawks game, or if this spot just doesn't pack in the people. Either way, I liked it. This may not be a party spot for younger bachelorettes though, if you're looking to do shots and bump and grind with the bros. But it's a chill place to hang out and have some good drinks. The Grasshopper and Creamsicle drinks are fantastic. Some of my friends shared a giant fishbowl drink. I tried a few sips and it's pretty good, but also loaded with ice. The booze soaked cherries sank to the bottom, but that didn't stop one of my friends from going elbow deep into the drink to fish them out. Prices are reasonable, the drink menu goes on forever, I could have drank here all night. The bartenders were nice, but they were extremely hesitant to serve a fishbowl drink to our group. They have two sizes: one is about $30 and serves 2-4 people; other second is $60 or $70 and serves 7-8 people. We had a group of maybe ten, and even though only 3-4 people planned to share the fish bowl, they refused to serve us the larger one. It would have been easier if they were more adamant in explaining the serving sizes, but the waitress hesitated, which gave my friends the opportunity to challenge and push her. It just got weird. They ended up buying two of the smaller fish bowls anyway. Because it was so empty, it appeared that the staff were in charge of the music that night, which resulted in listening to 1970s disco funk. I felt like I was at a high school reunion for the class of 1977. It would have been nice to have had either funky, tropical reggae music playing, or just simply some Top 40 music with some boom and shake to it, know what I mean?
